This page contains the procedures for installing an update
of StudioSchool Pro 3 in both Single and Multi-User installations. (Click HERE for
procedures to upgrade from version 3 to version 4.)
For those
using FileMaker Server in a Multi-User environment, this operation
will need to be performed on the server machine and a copy of FileMaker
Pro must be available on that machine.
Perform this update at a time when it will not be interrupted.
Do not do other work on the computer while the update is taking
place.
Multi-User Version running under FileMaker Server:
- Stop FileMaker Server. On Macintosh, click “Stop Server”
or Quit the Server application. On Windows, Go to “Services”
via either the FileMaker Server Console or Control Panels ->
Administrative Tools -> Services. Find FileMaker Server 5.5
in the Services list, Right-click and select "Stop".
- Make sure that a copy of FileMaker Pro 6 with the proper plug-ins
is installed on the Server (see SSP installation instructions
for details if required).
- If necessary, Quit/Exit FileMaker Pro.
- Make sure you have a backup of your current SSP file folder.
- If, necessary, decompress the update - a .zip archive - using
WinZip, Stuffit Expander or other
utility. The desktop is a good location to save it. The easiest
way to extract a Zip archive on Windows is by right-clicking and
choosing "Extract All", avoid double-clicking as this
can bring up a confusing WinZip window.
- Open the folder containing the StudioSchool Pro update and
double-click on “Start_SSP.fp5”.
- When you reach the dialog that asks if you are Updating or
a New User, click “Update”.
- Follow the instructions to locate the “SSP_Setup.fp5”
file within your Old StudioSchool Pro
folder.
- The updater will import all your old data into the updated
version. This may take a few minutes or much longer depending
on the number of records and the speed of the computer. Do not
interrupt the update or perform other activities on the computer
while the update is taking place.
- After the update has completed, and before re-starting FileMaker
Server, open the updated version directly in FileMaker Pro by
double-clicking on the Start_SSP or the SSP_Setup file. Check
the preference settings in Admin.
- Quit/Exit FileMaker Pro. Move the "Databases" folder
to your FileMaker Server 5.5 folder (in Program Files), replacing
the previous folder.
- Important: Delete the Start_SSP file as it is not needed a multi-user
setup.
- Restart FileMaker Server 5.5 from Services (Windows) or by re-launching
the FileMaker Server 5.5 application (Mac).
- Reconnect to the Server via a separate workstation using the
normal method of the “Hosts” dialog and double-clicking
on SSP_Setup. When StudioSchoolPro opens, the version number
displayed
should be 3.32 or higher and may include a build number in the
form of “b01” or similar.
Single-User Version OR
Multi-User being not using FileMaker Server:
- Quit/Exit FileMaker Pro so that your current copy of SSP is
closed.
- Make a backup of your current SSP file folder.
- Follow the instructions to locate the “SSP_Setup.fp5”
file within your OLD SSP file folder.
- The updater will import all your old data into the updated
version. This may take a few minutes or much longer depending
on the number of records and the speed of the computer. Do not
interrupt the update or perform other activities on the computer
while the update is taking place.
- When the update is complete, Quit FileMaker.
- Move your OLD StudioSchoolPro file folder to another location,
usually a folder for backups. We recommend that you Zip the folder
and add today’s date to the folder name for easy future
reference. (To zip on Windows, right-click and choose "Send
to compressed Archive")
- If you have used a shortcut or alias to access SSP, be sure
to update or re-create it so that you launches the new update
rather than the older copy. A shortcut or alias can be made to
the “Start_SSP.fp5” file or to the “SSP_Setup.fp5”
file within the “Databases” folder.
- When you restart StudioSchoolPro, the version number displayed
should be 3.32 or higher and may include a build number in the
form of “b01” or similar.
